Ernesto Briceño - violin II
Oriol Saña - violin I

The Virus String Quartet was formed in 2003 by Oriol Saña (violin), Ernesto Briceño (violin), Elizabeth Gex (viola) and Barnabas Hangonyi (violoncello). Their repertoire contains clear references to jazz, blues and funk, combining compositions by its members with influences like acid jazz or techno. It is basically developed using percussive sound effects on acoustic instruments as well as other timbres such as electric 5- or 6-string violin, pedals and samplers set off by computer. Depending on the type of production, it is possible to use photo and video projections to create a concert in which images and music interact. Recently, the quartet participated in the project "From Rock to Heavy Metal" with the Granollers Chamber Orchestra, where they demonstrated many of the myriad possibilities of stringed instruments.

In the past summer, they performed in the Senglar Rock Festival (Montblanc), were awarded the CajaMadrid Prize (a concert at the CajaMadrid cultural center in Barcelona on November 26th, 2004) at the Fifth Annual Street Fair in Vilaseca, and participated in the presentation of the "Gnapos" funk band’s new CD Party with yourself at Luz de Gas.
