Multi-media collective Slow Six has been delivering its own brand of electronic instrumental post-rock since 1998. Instrumentation includes amplified strings, electric guitars, keyboards, homegrown software instruments, and video projections mixed live throughout the space. Born of that natural space between classical and popular music, Slow Six mixes the instrumental prowess and compositional focus of classical music with real-time digital signal processing and lush visual landscapes. Whether collaborating with modern dancers, interpreting improvisational structures, or performing dynamic electro-acoustic scores beneath layers of video, their sound is always engaging and distinctive. Central to Slow Six is the extensive use of custom audio applications composer, violinist, and software designer Christopher Tignor creates, allowing him to transfigure the sounds of the acoustic instruments in the ensemble throughout the works. As these audio samples are captured live and thus unique to each performance, the computer's voice remains rooted within its evolving musical surroundings transforming the computer from its limited role as a playback device or sound effect generator into a full-fledged member of the ensemble.
Slow Six first performed in the winter of 2000 and has presented concerts at many of New York's leading music venues including Joe's Pub, The Knitting Factory, Tonic, and the Joyce SoHo Theater. Their debut release, Private Times in Public Places, has received international praise and airplay and been featured locally on PRI's Echoes Program, WFMU, and WNYC on John Schaffer's nightly show New Sounds.
This track is from their forthcoming disc Nor'easter. officially set for release on July 31. For those in the NYC area, their record release will be Fri. Aug 3 at 9 PM at Joe's Pub - sharing the bill with their friends, Gutbucket. Tickets our $15 at www.joespub.com.
