Supernova String Quartet
Los Angeles, CA, USA

"Mr. P.C."
Ludvig Girdland - violin
Robert Anderson - violin
Miguel Atwood-Ferguson - viola
Jacob Szekely - cello

Through their performances of original genre defying compositions, and a commitment to improvisation, Los Angeles based Supernova has established a loyal following in Southern California. Devoted to stretching the boundaries of the string quartet, the group is redefining the sonic potential of its medium through the use of electronic effects, harmonizers, and looping. The music of Supernova is reflective of the diverse cultural and artistic backgrounds of its members. Their music freely mixes influences ranging from Beethoven to Bill Evans, Coltrane to Ravel, Prince to Pat Metheny.

In late 2005, 1st violinist Ludvig Girdland was seriously injured in an automobile accident, having been hit by a drunk driver. The group has since disbanded with members pursuing other projects. Girdland has returned to his native Sweden with his wife and has been making a slow but steady recovery. We wish him the best!
