Planet Ubiquity is a collective of musicians and artists lead by five ambassadors of alternative music in the New York City scene. The umbrella of music that is reached at a Planet U experience ranges from Straight Ahead Jazz, to Traditional West African drumming, R&B, Rock, Soul, Hard Core hip-hop, Soca and Roots Reggae music. Icons that influence a Planet U writing session are, Marvin Gaye, KRS1, De La Soul, Living Colour, Rakim, John Coltrane, The Roots, Stevie Wonder, Steel Pulse, Bob Marley, David Ryan Harris, J. S. Bach, Jimi Hendrix, Donny Hathaway, Sly & the Family Stone, Curtis Mayfield, and Prince. Some of New Yorks most talented musicians, singers, lyricist and poets can be witnessed at a Ubiquity performance. However, the core of Planet U is Shani Kulture (lead vocals), Shayshahn Phearnone (five-string violin, and vocals), Shaun Kelly (Drums and Vocals), Shelton Garner (guitar and vocals), and Lenny Johnson (electric Bass). These five alone and together have preformed in 50 different colleges, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Brooklyn Street Festival, Black August, The Kennedy Center, S.O.Bs, BB Kings, and CBGBs to name a few. Planet Ubiquitys mission is to create a higher level of music using old and new genres, and to provide a platform for both established and upcoming musicians, lyricist, and poets to create. Planet Ubiquitys music represents a breadth of genres and cultures.
