The Yeah Yeah Yeman is an open collective of musicians sharing the love for traditional Yemeni music and European pop. The idea was born in January 2007 when the German Dada-Terror-Polka outfit 'Kamerakino' were invited to Sana'a to collaborate with local musicians with financial help by the German House and the Ministry of Culure, Yemen. Sebastian Kellig and Sebastian Meyhoefer fell in love with Yemeni music, the harsh mountain stretches, the lush wadis, the invincible tribes people and stunning architecture. They returned to Sana'a in October 2007 and travelled the country together with Murad al-Aqrabi and collaborated with local musicians, writing one song for each of the areas the passed. They enjoyed unprecedented success, colaborating with high-profile musicians such as Ahmed Maheub, and enjoyed spritual guidance by Ayoub Tarish. They also recorded an album at Sab'a Sounds, Taizz, as well as The Yemen Music House Studios, Sana'a. The Yeah Yeah Yemen is a travelling circus, promoting tolerance and understanding at a time when East-West relations are stretched and bad press regarding the muslim world dominates the headlines. Anybody who enjoys Arabic music and is open for new experiences is welcome to join in. The Yeah Yeah Yemen are currently looking into european tour dates and labels interested in releasing a unique blend of traditional Yemeni music and European pop.
